TRICARE covers many services for beneficiaries with Autism Spectrum Disorder, including:
- Occupational therapy
- Physical therapy
- Physician services
- Psychological services
- Psychological testing
- Prescription drugs
- Speech Therapy
- Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
- Respite Care*
Respite is not a covered benefit under the CACD but is available through ECHO for active duty service members.
TRICARE covers ABA for all eligible beneficiaries diagnosed with autism through the TRICARE Comprehensive Autism Care Demonstration (CACD).
To qualify for the Comprehensive Autism Care Demonstration, active duty service members must enroll in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) and register in the Extended Care Health Option (ECHO).
A referral or prescription may be needed to obtain some services. Make sure you contact your primary care manager to find out what services your plan covers.
The CACD began July 25, 2014 and will continue through December 31, 2023.

For beneficiaries in the East Region, Humana has developed an Autism Center of Excellence website dedicated to autism related topics for beneficiaries and providers.
Autism Speaks' advocacy team has worked to ensure TRICARE coverage of autism treatments, including ABA. We continue our work to ensure that military members and their families can access needed services throughout their lifespan.
